A History of the Team Poker Challenge
Updated January 17, 2009
The Team Poker Challenge is a unique concept exclusive to the Jersey Series of Poker. This event puts two players together to play as a team in a variety of events consisting of Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit games. This tournament is one of the most liked events in the JSOP, but also one of the longest.
This event was started in March of 2007 and had a total of 5 teams. The Limit games were won by John Raughley and Justin Loggia, the Pot Limit games were won by Tom Taylor and Chris Loggia, and the No Limit games were won by Tom Taylor and Mike Leatherwood. The eventual winners, John Raughley and Justin Loggia, had to sweat out the victory up until the last game when Josh Weber was busted in 4th place which locked John and Justin in with the victory.
The March 2008 version saw 4 teams playing in the events. The Limit games were won by Chris Loggia and John Raughley, the Pot Limit games were won by John Raughley and Josh Weber, and the No Limit games were won by Josh Weber and Dan Winegrad. After the first round was considered a wash, Josh Weber came back to win two games to catapult the team of himself and Tom Taylor into a tiebreaker scenario with Dan Winegrad and John Raughley. A heads up mini tournament was going to solve the end of this tournament. After random pairings, Tom Taylor went on to beat John Raughley and Dan Winegrad took down Josh Weber to meet in the finals. The finals went on for a grueling 45 minutes before Dan Winegrad came out victorious for his team.
The 2009 version of this event is more likely than not going to be placed on the schedule due to its popularity with the participants in it.
On a personal side note, I've come 2nd in this event twice and I'm really REALLY aggravated by this. If I don't win this event next year, I'll be pretty upset. Screw you Josh for screwing up in 2007 and screw you Dan for running insanely lucky. No offense to either of you, but piss off.
