A History of the Monroe Winter Classic

Updated January 17, 2009

Before the JSOP went to its Circuit format, the Monroe Winter Classic was the 2nd season used in the weekly format which was taken down by Josh Weber. The season lasted for a total of 12 weeks and had memorable moment in it like Josh Weber busting Tom Taylor with quad tens two weeks straight. This also had the very first Royal Flush seen by the JSOP won by Josh Weber. Most of the players that currently play in the Jersey Series of Poker started playing at this season.

The first year the Monroe Winter Classic was started under the Circuit format was in January of 2007. There were a total of 12 players playing in the inaugural Monroe Winter Classic which was later taken down by Mike Leatherwood after he went heads up with Chris Loggia. Chris held K2 while Mike held K10 and all the money was put in on the river with a board of 9JQKK, yikes.

The second year of the Monroe Winter Classic was held in January of 2008. There was still a total amount of 12 players to show up to the 2nd annual event. The runner up of the first event, Chris Loggia, decided to win the event instead of taking down 2nd for two years in a row.

This event is scheduled to make a return for the 2009 season. Who is going to take down the title in the 3rd annual run of this tournament? We'll have to find out in 2009.
