A History of the Halloween Hold 'em Championship

Updated January 17, 2009

The Halloween Hold 'em Championship had been another unique addition to the JSOP Circuit schedule lineup. This is another one of the few events starting in 2006 and still continuing.

In 2006, this event had 9 players and was eventually won by Dan Winegrad who took down his first Circuit win at this event. The runner up, Chris Loggia, was not too happy that he hasn't won a Circuit to that date.

In 2007, players finally decided to dress up as different poker players. We had Dan Winegrad, the winner in 2006, dress up as Tony G, Adam Martinez was a quiet Humberto Brenes, Tom Taylor was a heavy looking Chris Ferguson, Mike Leatherwood was the stoic Ted Forrest, and Josh Weber was Daniel Negreanu for the first ten minutes before realizing he couldn't act like Negreanu to save his life. The winner of the event was the runner up the year prior, Chris Loggia, dressed as Kenny Tran and proclaiming "I'm a genius!" the whole way down to winning the title.

The 2008 edition of this event saw a record number of entrants ever for a JSOP tournament with a total of 20. Since no one was forced to dress up like poker players, we saw a mix of stellar costumes. We had everything like John Raughley dressing up as Borat, Dan Winegrad dressing like Josh Weber and vice versa, Carol Spack and KT Lyons dressing up like hookers, and Tom Taylor dressing up as the "Non KKK Ghost", they all failed to take down the title as Chris Loggia dressing as Chris Sepcsik took down this event (so maybe if Sep dresses like someone else he may have a sh... nah).

The idea of a bounty tournament never went through for the 2008 edition and probably won't happen for 2009. Will we see any stellar costumes for the 2009 edition? I hope to god we don't see anyone dressing like Chris Sepcsik, one is enough.
